001 - Weed Problem
It's quite quiet until this higher pitch frequency is added and destroyed. Not really sure what the deal is here. It reminds me of what I heard in “nice shirt”. I don’t have much to say about it, I was writing another document during most of this. Hakita went kind of crazy at the start of this review. Must’ve been rewritten, because what he said is not what I’d expect from a first listen. It fades out into what seems to be a second part, where a growling distorted instrument fades in. I think it’s a guitar. There’s some growling building up. It kind of goes nowhere, other than some intensity fading in but briefly fading out. There’s these funky sounds that come in, sort of like poking in, what seems to be a transistor bass. It’s kind of hard catching these details because you never know when or how, or if they even come back. I hear this odd stab where it elevates notes in a rhythm. It distracts me. Come to think of it, this rumbling is a bit familiar to the start. Coming in fresh out of 313, I’m already impressed by how this album is connected so far. Great! For a second I hear this deep growling instrument frequency which I like, and I think it turns into this bass/guitar. It’s hard to tell because the pitch is so low it sometimes just feels like rapid pulses, not the waves of an instrument. The background high pitch sound builds up and gets louder for a moment. It quickly becomes shy. Stabs again, come, but echo away. I do like the gentle abrasiveness of this track. It’s never harsh, loud, scary or anything. Very soft, but still metallic, crunchy and pretty raw with its selection of sounds. Maybe it’s a terrible opinion to write about, but we’ll learn that as we go. I notice it fades out by now, so I'm preparing for a third part. Going into this track feeling pretty hungry to be honest. Hopefully it's yummy. This feels bold considering how the previous gravelly basses we had were basically just basic vibrations. This is very recognizably an introduction brought to you by this very low bass, with a string that sounds loose enough to… I dunno. There’s also a low guitar that backs it up quickly and it starts to get riled up pretty fast. Builds up with no conclusion other than just backing down and trying again. It makes me feel like trying to break the confines of space. You can throw a heavy brick at the stars as hard as you want, you’ll never hit a wall, it just keeps going. I like how the different frequencies interact with each other here. Makes a nice soundscape. I hate to say it, but this gets boring. I know this isn’t their fault, this is just because I listen to faster songs with intense and convoluted aspects, but even then this just feels a bit too slow for me. Not sure how else to put it other than it feels like the song is making a point and then repeating it over and over. I heard you the first time. Oh, guess it heard me complain ‘cause it did something different. It kind of growls back at you with this feedback that chimes in. It comes back but not nearly as loud… Then it comes back again with a higher pitch. Not too close but still lingering. Got some rising stuff… I really like the distorted and crunchy sound this rising sound has. It stands out and it captures an unique feeling that I really like. After some more of the same I think there’s a rise in the pitch of at least one or more of the drones. I really like its original impact, but the sounds are so blended together it’s hard to catch when it appears again or if it hasn't even appeared before. I heard a percussion delay into obscurity. Now all those mounds of sound walk out and we’re left with this oscillation with the feedback coming in occasionally. I think this might fade out into the end in a few minutes. This feedback kind of works in the same way as the last time it showed up. Final score, a 5.8/10 for now.
002 - He is Not Dead, but Sleepeth
Oh, thank you for clarifying, Bull Of Heaven. I was worried that this human in the cover was dead, but now I’m well informed that he actually sleepeth. A deep growling sound fades in, on the right ear, before a different frequency of that bass sound comes in on the left. 18 seconds in, I hear something… Odd, for a very small fraction of a second. Then at 24 seconds in, a cough is heard. I’m sure this means something, but for now what I think is that maybe Clayton’s throat was a bit hoarse during this recording. It’s kind of hard to imagine this would be the case, though. We have this clattering sound coming in here… Sounds like my window whenever my house shakes too hard. And it kind of feels like my left and right ears are listening to 2 different songs entirely, I think both channels have their own thing going on and not really overlapping. Goes on for a bit, I notice the rattling is kind of fading out. Heard a bit of ringing. Not much else other than that, I believe… Kinda phased out, but I report that most of this rattling and other drones that were going on aren’t really present anymore. It’s a single constant frequency playing in both ears with some frequency distortion, and this synth shows up, fading into the right ear and fading out the left. It phases for a second and then starts to appear more rapidly. Someone is now playing with the left channel mixer, it seems. I’ve been working while listening to this. Not much seems to change since this last paragraph. I like this track’s ambiance, though. It’s really nice. We’re coming into the last quarter of this track, and I like how it progresses. And then, it fades out, concluding this track. 6.6/10, it’s not much, but has nice ambiance.
003 - Eleven Floors Down
Evil start. A harsh, electronic bass fades in along some other electronic sounds. The original bass fades out and back in, while some chirping is introduced in the back. These waves and frequencies modulate and change. Interestingly, the audio randomly cuts off shortly but returns as if it never happened. It also never comes back. Then some of the drones in the back intensify, and the soundscape is cool and very interesting and whatever. I don’t wanna seem too bored, this stands out so far and I like how it sounds. A pulsating then comes into the mix, speeding up but the frequency of the pitch stays the same. In the background we can hear some distorted sounds, it sounds like human speech. It plays in the left ear. Then the pulsating of a certain drone stops, staying constant and with its frequency sliding up, in a way which I really like, personally. On the right channel, a similar yet different enough distorted sound to the speech in the left ear, starts fading in. I can definitely spot a chorus on this background drone, meaning we have multiple frequencies interacting at once. When they pitch up, the resulting sound is incredible. Some drums start fading in. Love it! They seem a bit glitchy, and the distorted speech-like sound starts emancipating, with the background drones also calming down a bit. I think the drums are accompanied by a distorted guitar. It’s not drawing too much attention, but it’s still there and I like how it sounds. I hear some occasional ringing from the left side, and the drums glitch out a bit, but I guess nothing’s stopping the jam. After a bit of that, you can hear distorted sounds creeping up into the song on the left channel, but they don’t come in here. A ringing is heard for a very fleeting moment, stepping in and cutting out. I mention it because it sounds a lot like the screeching of a CRT, which I’m familiar with. Then it’s just that. Despite being 10 minutes into this and the previous 2 tracks having been like 40 and 50 minutes long, this feels wayy longer, especially considering this track is like 26 minutes. The drums are fading out into this quieter drone. I hear some odd sounds from afar. This makes me feel like I’m in the walls of some evil hotel’s maintenance area, and hearing the other guests from across the hall. This whole drumming section has felt like I’m somewhere I shouldn’t be, but belong in anyway. With the drums gone, and just this abrasive drone here, there’s that speech-like sound. I think it’s music, but distorted heavily and reversed. Seems like a chorus, I wouldn’t doubt if it was some religious music. I like it… It feels like church to me! Huge fan of that exaggerated distortion, no one needs that much distortion. Saw wave kinda comes in with a higher pass filter than goes down again. Now all the drones are interacting and freaking out, making the whole track intensify. This is 19 minutes in. We have a long way down! It’s just that drone now… Some other reversed evil stuff starts fading in, but… I’m not concerned about it. It builds an atmosphere, one that I particularly like. Again, all I can say is that it sounds good and sounds evil. I’m not here to describe the whole soundscape anyway, I’m just commenting on what I notice, interpret and find interesting. If I don’t notice much or don’t see much to a sound, it’s not gonna be as commented. The track slowly fades out. Despite the slow scratches that fade in and out and seem to almost be building up, it concludes quietly. Thus, finishing this track. 7.7/10
