Developer Commentary

hi, thank you for joining me in developer commentary. this is where i talk about the process of creating and developing the game, and serves as a blog to hold any information about how certain aspects of the game were or are made! i also might provide images and stuff, if i wanna show off something. the following entry was written along with this current version of the page.

TEA was created on may 30th 2024, along with the help of my friend, who suggested i should re-make a game i had made back in like, 2021? i mentioned i wanted to do some form of game development again (since i already had made a few little personal games for me and my friends to play), because i wanted a creative outlet and to relive the nostalgia of building like i did before, with the skills i have today, and i guess that game had just came up during discussion. the game was a simple hang out game for me and a friend group of mine at the time, it was a little island with a beach, everything surrounded by stone mountains. so we got together and started planning for the game, with the focus of it being a small, solo-dev vibe game, that could help re-define the hangout/vibe game scene roblox had at the time. it was relatively ambitious for a first game, but it was only a small project, so it was ok. However, that vision had grown completely different as the game took shape. As of now, the dev team has 4 members, including me, but i do almost everything in it. writing, animating, testing, modeling, texturing.. and other stuff. i've even been trying to learn LUA to help my programmer, but it's a slow process. the game today is in version 1, in pre-alpha. Version 0 consists of my first attempt of making the game, with very basic island and decent-to-primitive quality models. it's the foundation of the game, because that's where everything was planned and fleshed out, and assets were eventually being remade the longer the development went on. What separates these 2 versions, is the base island. V0's island was just a remake of the original game's island made with the help of my friend, but due to some mistakes i had made when generating the terrain, it became harder and harder to work with as time went on. so, it was completely overhauled. i spent days researching about island formations, and how different types of islands are made. all of this was so i could plan out an island aesthetically, geographically, gameplay-wise and story-wise logical. In the end, the result wasn't perfect, but it worked fine with my plans and was sustainable enough in case i wanted to make changes. the reason why the island being remade separates it, but remakes of other game aspects didn't, is because after the island was remade, the development process sped up a lot more in comparison to early on, as the new terrain formation was a lot better to work with than before.
